I created the Bimini Shark Lab Collection to connect wildlife photography, comfortable everyday apparel, and real conservation support. The collection features hammerhead and tiger shark designs inspired by the remarkable animals found around Bimini, Bahamas.

For this feature, I am focusing on four great hammerhead styles. Each is available for casual wear, travel, beach days, and everyday layering. 10% of profits from these products are donated quarterly to the Bimini Shark Lab to support shark research and conservation.

I am keeping this article evidence-based. No invented field story. The conservation details below come from the Bimini Shark Lab’s hammerhead conservation research and its research overview.

Why Great Hammerheads Matter

The great hammerhead shark, Sphyrna mokarran, is a circumglobal species found in warm temperate to tropical coastal waters. These sharks use continental and insular shelves as well as nearby deeper waters. They are highly mobile and migratory.

They are also vulnerable by nature. Great hammerheads are long-lived, slow-growing, and late-maturing. The Bimini Shark Lab reports a maximum estimated age of 44 years. Their life history makes population recovery difficult when fishing pressure causes declines.

Great hammerheads were added to CITES Appendix II in 2014. In 2018, the IUCN Red List categorized the species as critically endangered. They are targeted or caught as bycatch in fisheries throughout their range, and their large fins are highly valued in international markets.

Bimini provides an important location for long-term study. Since 1990, the Bimini Shark Lab has encountered great hammerheads around South Bimini. Multi-year observations have found periodic high site fidelity at several locations surrounding the islands.

The lab’s work combines telemetry and genetic data with ecological analysis. Researchers examine movement patterns, habitat use, vertical space use, regional connectivity between the United States and the Bahamas, predator and prey dynamics, and the possible effects of food provisioning on small-scale movements and behavior.

A nearly decade-long identification project has also catalogued more than 60 unique great hammerheads returning to Bimini. Researchers identify individuals through fin notches, pigmentation spots, and ventral patterns. This type of long-term monitoring helps scientists understand which sharks return, how they use the area, and how their movements connect Bimini with other regions.

That research is the reason I wanted these designs to support the Bimini Shark Lab directly.

1. Great Hammerhead Hoodie

2. Hammerhead Jaws Crewneck Sweatshirt

For a classic layer, I designed the Hammerhead Jaws, Moss Apparel, Shark, Crewneck Sweatshirt.

This design is based on a photograph of a real hammerhead shark in Bimini, Bahamas, taken by me. I wanted the image to keep the animal’s distinctive shape and presence clear, creating a bold statement without unnecessary decoration.

The sweatshirt is $45.00 and made from a 50% cotton and 50% polyester blend at 203 g/m². It has a classic fit, preshrunk fleece knit, and air jet yarn for a softer feel and reduced pilling. Twin-needle stitching is used at the shoulder, armhole, neck, waistband, and cuffs. The 1x1 rib with elastane helps provide a comfortable, flexible finish.

3. Hammerhead Shark Cruising Cotton T-Shirt

The Hammerhead Shark Cruising, Moss Apparel, Shark Style Cotton T-Shirt is the most lightweight and accessible option in the group at $29.00.

This unisex T-shirt has a classic fit and is made from 100% cotton at 203 g/m². It uses preshrunk jersey knit for a consistent everyday feel. The seamless twin-needle 2.2 cm collar, taped neck and shoulders, and tear-away label add structure and comfort.

I designed this as an easy staple for warm-weather wear, casual outfits, and layering under a hoodie or crewneck. It is machine washable and available in multiple colors, including white, sand, black, and navy.

4. Hammerhead Jaws Long Sleeve T-Shirt

The Hammerhead Jaws, Moss Apparel, Shark, Long Sleeve T-Shirt adds coverage without the weight of a sweatshirt.

Like the crewneck design, this shirt is based on a photograph of a real hammerhead shark in Bimini, Bahamas, taken by me. The black long sleeve format keeps the design direct and gives the image a strong, clean presentation.

The shirt is $42.00 and made from 100% Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton at 4.2 oz. It has a tailored cut with fitted sleeves, sideseamed construction, ribbed cuffs, and a tear-away label. It is machine washable and available in sizes XS through 2XL.

The Bimini Shark Lab’s great hammerhead research is focused on information that can improve conservation decisions. Photo identification helps researchers monitor individual sharks over time. Acoustic and satellite telemetry helps reveal movement patterns, habitat use, and regional connectivity. Genetic data adds another layer of understanding.
