In the gin-clear waters of Bimini, Bahamas, there is a silhouette that changes you the moment you see it. It starts as a smudge on the horizon of the white sand flats: a tall, sickle-shaped dorsal fin cutting through the turquoise. Then, the "Ghost" materializes. The Great Hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran) is often called the Ghost of the ocean. It isn’t because they are invisible; it’s because of how they move. They appear out of the blue, massive and silent, gliding with a prehistoric grace that feels more like a spirit than a fish.
